From July 20th to August 14th, local Pittsburgh artist Joren Dykstra will be featured at the Boxheart Gallery located at 4523 Liberty Ave in Pittsburgh. Dykstra’s paintings represent an evolution of techniques that he has experimented with in the past. His current series emphasizes not only the lack of texture and the immediacy of the results, but also the amplification of the element of chance. There is and amazing feeling of discovery when he removes the tape, revealing the painting for the first time in its new state. The opening reception (free and open to the public) will be held Saturday, July 24th from 5pm - 8pm. Gallery hours our Tuesdays, 11am - 6pm, Wednesdays - Saturdays, 10am - 6pm and Sundays 1pm - 5pm. Penn Hills Arts Festival - July 23 & 24

The Penn Hills Arts Council will be sponsoring their annual “Penn Hills Arts Festival” on July 24th and 25th. This Festival is designed to enhance public awareness of the visual and performing arts, especially of local groups and individuals, to perform or to exhibit their work, and to provide a community event for the people of Penn Hills. The Festival will be held at the William E. Anderson Library located at 1037 Stotler Road. All entries are due no later than Tuesday, June 22.
