Some Advantages of Acrylic Paints

Why should you use Acrylics instead of Oils?  Acrylic paint is an extraordinarily versatile artist medium. It can create a great range of texture and effects – from the thickest impasto to the most fluid palette knife and brushwork, up to the most transparent glazes and watercolor washes. Acrylics adhere to almost any surface – including unprimed linen, cotton, cardboard, wood, masonry, plaster, and stone.  Acrylic paints are extremely easy to handle – allowing great freedom for creative expression. They are fast drying – permitting “rapid” overpainting and allowing for the build up of multiple layers in one painting session. Acrylic paint thins with water and dries to a waterproof finish.

Finally, when they are dry; acrylics produce a very tough permanent paint film that is stable, waterproof and extremely flexible, without any issues of compatibility.

In addition, acrylic paints are generally less expensive than their oil counterparts making them more accessible to artists.

Welcome to Utrecht Pittsburgh!

Hello, my name is Tim Naulty I am the manager of Utrecht Art Supplies in Pittsburgh. I have been working at Utrecht for 6 years.

I am interested in all aspects of fine arts. From Oil and Acrylic paints, to pastel and pencil drawings, I have found that you can always learn something new just by talking to fellow artists about their current or past projects.

We are located on the corner of 20th and East Carson Street on the Southside of Pittsburgh, two blocks from the Birmingham Bridge. Utrecht Pittsburgh is a full service art supply store carrying products from hundreds of national brands.
We currently serve as the primary source of art, architecture, and drafting supplies for many students and faculty; as well as the professional artists and architects throughout the Tri-State area. We are proud of our heritage of providing artists in every discipline with the highest quality products at the best price we can possibly offer.

Here at Utrecht Pittsburgh, we employ a staff of 7 customer service oriented associates. Our Assistant Manager, Joren Dykstra, has a BFA from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and has been with us for over 5 years. He is an avid painter who has numerous years of experience and is more than willing to answer any of your product questions. The remaining staff members have over 20 years of knowledge in the fine arts and they are ready to assist you with your next project or supply list.

We at the Pittsburgh Utrecht look forward to seeing you soon. We guarantee you a great shopping experience that will certainly allow Utrecht to be your number one destination for all of your art needs.
